The CANVAS project consortium is pleased to invite you to the Final Conference of the CANVAS Project, a scientific event dedicated to presenting the key outcomes of the project and discussing current challenges in immunotherapeutic approaches for cancer. The conference will bring together researchers, clinicians, and stakeholders engaged in advancing innovative cancer therapies and translational oncology. Through keynote lectures, thematic scientific sessions, and a poster session for early-stage researchers, the event will foster interdisciplinary dialogue, knowledge exchange, and the development of future collaborations.
The conference will take place at the International Centre for Cancer Vaccine Science, University of Gdańsk in Gdańsk, Poland, at Kładki 24 Street, providing an inspiring setting for scientific discussion and networking within the cancer research community.
The event will be officially opened by the Rector of the University of Gdańsk, prof. Piotr Stepnowski.
The scientific programme will cover four main thematic areas: Cancer Models, Cancer Immunology, Cancer Biology and Microenvironment, and Open Science.
The Cancer Models session will focus on advanced experimental systems used in translational cancer research and 3D tumoroid models for predicting drug response. Speakers in this session include dr. Christophe Battail (CEA Grenoble), Martyna Siewiera (International Centre for Cancer Vaccine Science, University of Gdańsk), dr. Flora Clement (University Grenoble Alpes, CEA, INSERM), and dr. Marcin Krzykawski (Real Research).
The Cancer Immunology session will address key challenges in cancer immunotherapy and immune- based therapeutic strategies. Presentations will be delivered by prof. Bart O. Roep (Leiden University Medical Centre), dr hab. Aleksandra Markiewicz (Medical University of Gdańsk), dr Irena Paczkowska (Maria Skłodowska-Curie National Research Institute of Oncology), and prof. Natalia Marek-Trzonkowska (International Centre for Cancer Vaccine Science, University of Gdańsk).
The Cancer Biology and Microenvironment session will explore molecular mechanisms of tumor progression, cancer cell signaling, and interactions within the tumor microenvironment. Confirmed speakers include prof. Beata Biesaga (Andrzej Frycz Modrzewski Krakow University), dr Rebecca Rothe (National Center for Tumor Diseases Dresden), prof. Monika Pietrowska (Maria Skłodowska-Curie National Research Institute of Oncology), and dr Paulina Nastały (Medical University of Gdańsk).
The Open Science session will highlight interdisciplinary perspectives on transparency, collaboration, and citizen engagement in biomedical research. This session will feature contributions from prof. Betty Polikar (Ma. BRO Life Science Ltd.) and prof. Carla Montesano (University of Rome Tor Vergata).
A dedicated Poster Session will provide a platform for early-career scientists and PhD students to present ongoing research, share recent findings, and engage with international experts. We warmly invite participants to submit abstracts related to cancer biology and oncology, including immuno-oncology and related translational research.
Registration for the CANVAS Conference is closed.
Participation is free of charge (including lunches and coffee breaks). However, participants are required to cover their own accommodation and travel expenses. Please note that separate funding rules apply to invited speakers.
The conference language is English.
We look forward to welcoming you to Gdańsk for this inspiring conference!
