ICCVS at the Night of Biologists

On 16 January 2026, researchers from our Centre dr Katarzyna Dziubek and dr Anna Biernacka participated in the Night of Biologists, a nationwide science outreach initiative aimed at promoting biology and life sciences. The event took place at the University of Gdańsk as well as at research institutions across Poland and was held under the theme “Biology full of signals – discover how life communicates.”

During the event, ICCVS researchers hosted an information and demonstration stand, where visitors had the opportunity to engage directly with ongoing research activities. The team introduced the role of regulatory T cells (Tregs) in the immune system, explaining how these cells contribute to maintaining immune balance by limiting excessive immune responses. The discussions also addressed the potential of Tregs in the development of modern immunotherapeutic approaches.

Research on regulatory T cells constitutes an important part of ICCVS scientific activity. In this context, the Centre is currently conducting the CANVAS project, which focuses on supporting the development of more precise and safer immunotherapies for lung cancer by leveraging the body’s natural immune mechanisms. Project CANVAS (Enhancing Cancer Vaccine Science for New Therapy Pathways) has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme.

The event offered an opportunity to share current scientific knowledge and present ongoing research in an accessible way to a wide audience. Initiatives such as the Night of Biologists help bring science closer to the public and create valuable spaces for informal exchange between researchers and visitors, while also reaching younger audiences and encouraging early interest in biology and life sciences.
