Over the past three days (3-5 March 2025), we were thrilled to host a comprehensive flow cytometry workshop at the International Centre for Cancer Vaccine Science, supported by the CANVAS project. The event brought together participants eager to deepen their understanding of cytometry through expert-led lectures and hands-on training.
The workshop opened with Michal Maj, who introduced fundamental principles in Cells on the Move: Understanding the Basics of Flow Cytometry and the challenges of extracellular vesicle (EV) analysis in Small Particles, Big Problems: Overcoming the Hurdles of EV Analysis by Flow talk. Rafal Socha followed with an engaging session on Spectral Flow Fundamentals, shedding light on the latest advancements in the field. While Prof. Natalia Marek-Trzonkowska discussed Flow Cytometry Applications in scientific research.

Other talks included:
– Rafal Januszewski on the principles and challenges of cell sorting
– Ines Papak on compensation strategies in flow cytometry
– Anna Biernacka on FlowJo data analysis, helping participants interpret and visualize their results

Hands-on training:
Day 1: Participants mastered instrument setup, software operation, and key cytometry assays (proliferation, viability, apoptosis, and calcium flux). The session also covered fluidics, maintenance, and system shutdown.
Day 2: Focused on cell sorting using the FACS Aria Fusion, where participants had their first experience in sorting cells for downstream analysis.
Day 3: Concluded with an in-depth FlowJo data analysis workshop, ensuring participants could effectively process and interpret their results.

A huge thank you to our speakers and participants for making this workshop such a valuable and engaging experience!
